Ingredients
  

  • ½ head green cabbage chopped
  • 2 large carrots sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 clove garlic minced (optional)
  • Squeeze of lemon juice or chopped parsley optional finish

Instructions
 

  • Wash and chop cabbage into bite-size pieces.
  • Slice carrots into thin rounds or matchsticks.
  • Bring 1 inch of water to a boil in a pot with a steamer basket.
  • Add cabbage and carrots to the basket.
  • Cover and steam for 6 to 8 minutes until vegetables are tender-crisp.
  • Transfer steamed vegetables to a bowl.
  • Add butter or olive oil, salt, pepper, and minced garlic if using.
  • Toss gently to coat evenly.
  • Finish by adding a squeeze of lemon juice or sprinkle chopped parsley if desired.
  • Serve warm alongside chicken, fish, beef, or rice dishes.

Notes

  • Avoid over-steaming to keep a slight crisp texture.
  • Add soy sauce, sesame oil, or red pepper flakes for extra flavor.
  • A drizzle of honey complements the carrots well.
  • Toss with cooked bacon bits or toasted almonds to make it heartier.
