Equipment

  • 1 bowl
  • 1 skillet for sautéing mushrooms and onions
  • 1 grill or skillet for cooking burgers
  • 1 toaster or grill optional, for toasting buns

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 8 oz mushrooms sliced (button or cremini)
  • 1 small onion thinly sliced
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 burger buns
  • Optional toppings: lettuce tomato, pickles, mayo, mustard

Instructions

  • In a bowl, gently mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Form the mixture into four equal patties, slightly wider than the buns.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté mushrooms and onions until golden and tender, about 6 to 8 minutes; season with salt and pepper and set aside.
  • Heat grill or skillet to medium-high heat and cook burger patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium doneness.
  • Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty during the last minute to melt.
  • Optionally, toast burger buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster.
  • Assemble burgers by placing cheesy patties on buns, topping with sautéed mushrooms and onions, and adding optional toppings as desired.

Notes

  • Use Gruyère or provolone cheese for alternative flavors.
  • Handle meat gently to keep patties juicy.
  • Add a splash of balsamic vinegar to mushrooms for extra depth.
  • Serve with fries, chips, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
